Peek in a Buddhist Shrine

I noticed this monk praying outside a shrine when we stopped for a rest break.
He must have noticed me, as they invited us into the shrine.
Several of us took the offer and went in.

This fat Buddha statue was covered with little baby Buddhas.

I do not know any of the background of these deities.  The one on the right looks like he is checking his cell phone.

Clearly meant to be a scary guardian or protector - stay away!

This man suggested to us that he had helped build part of the shrine or statues.
That is, the smaller Vietnamese man on the right.
Chris on the left was part of the bike group.
