First Steps Toward Independence: 900 - 1100 AD

Although still under Chinese domination, there was fighting and upheaval, against the Chinese and also across the country among warlords.
Dinh Bo Linh reunited the country as Dai Co Viet and moved the capital to Hoa Lu. 
Le Hoan ultimately succeeded as emperor, starting the Le Dynasty.

The country was liberated from Chinese rule in 1077 and named Dai Viet.
