1,000 Years of Northern Domination
The area that would later become Vietnam was dominated by the Chinese from 179 BC to 1077 AD. This sign explains it from the Vietnamese point of view. The map shows sites of conflict and battles as flames, as well as forts "of the Chinese aggressors."
Arms and weapons were common artifacts from this long period of conflict.
The traditional Dong Son drum was banned by the Han Chinese district governors, so the people made bronze 'drum basins,' which could be used for daily tasks and turned over to function as drums during festivals.
