Enzo and Tino

We were happy to meet Enzo and Tino, German and Italian speaking local Swiss hikers.  They go out every week in the area.  We managed to communicate with the help of beer but not English.

Although Ticino has been affiliated with Swiss cantons since 1500 and part of the Swiss Confederation since 1800, the area was hurt terribly in the nineteenth century when the Austrian Hungarian Empire cut off migrant laborers from traveling to work  in northern Italy.  Forests were cut and people did whatever they could to survive.  Erosion became a huge problem, along with floods, avalanches, deposition and fires.  Erosion gullies are still visible  today, see above.  Deposition fan delta below.
