These statues were made in Egypt between about 500 BC and 200 AD.  The religious temples and cities were defaced and later covered by the Mediterranean and only rediscovered 2,000 years later.  One can witness the Egyptian religion dealing with death and the transfer of power.  How haunting and beautiful these monuments are.
