Whilst wandering about London, I chanced upon a walled compound called 'The Inner Temple.' There are buildings, offices, residences, gardens and a church dating to the 1100s. Whilst the original founders were the Knights Templar, it has now become one of four legal training and professional societies for barristers. The gates are often locked and it can be hard to get into the inner courtyards. The sign on the church door reads: "The Temple Church: Mother Church of the Common Law." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_Temple
