Zurich Grossmunster Kreuzgang

The Kreuzgang or Cloister of the Zurich Grossmunster was built in the late twelfth century.
The sandstone grotesque carvings have been cleaned and restored but there is no explanation of what they mean.
  One is left to  wonder at the predation depicted, everything is being eaten by something else and in rather gruesome ways.  

The purely ornamental friezes look almost Celtic.
