
The rain clouds gathered as we crossed the Rhein at Worms.
Dodging spectacular thunderheads, not always successfully, as we headed south.

Mr Simpson, seen below with Alan, escorted us across a remnant of the Old Rhein on the ferry. He is originally from Northumbria and has lived in Germany for many years and knows a lot about Roman history.

The area of Manheim approaching from the north looked like Nibelheim. This is the mythic area where the Nibbelungen fashion the gold riches from the earth for the gods.
