Connecticut Reminders

The first photo below is the 'Frog Bridge' in Willimantic, Connecticut, which was known as 'Thread City' due to the factories that used mill power to turn out thread for textile industry.

This is an abandoned industrial site on the bike path outside of town.

Glass House Landscaping

 The Glass House, outside New Canaan, Connecticut is renowned for the 1945 design by Philip Johnson.  The 50 acre grounds around the small house have been preserved, along with several other buildings he designed.  Philip Johnson himself was immensely wealthy, through a gift from his father.

Rome, NY Capitolfest

 Capitolfest is a celebration of old movies in a restored vintage theater.

Rome New York is between Syracuse and Utica.

It was the 'Oneida Carrying Place' portage between the Mohawk River (Hudson drainage) and Wood Creek (which flows toward Lake Ontario).  The Oneida nation belonged to the Iroquois Confederacy.

During the American Revolution, Fort Stanwix, below, was the site of important battles between the Continental patriot army, the British and Native American allies of both.

An abandoned steel mill shows one of the industries that have left town.  Others include Revere Copper Products and the Griffiss Air Force Base.

 A few Swiss artists from the Art Museum in Bern Switzerland.

The artwork there has labels showing history of each piece going back to the artist.  The museum probably is very careful with provenance, as it received the bequest of Cornelius Gurlitt on his death in 2014.  Lawsuits charging that the Gurlitt family had received artwork stolen by the Nazis got international attention.  His gift must have been a mixed blessing for the Kunstmuseum Bern.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornelius_Gurlitt_(art_collector)
